Community Message September 24: Covid Testing Updates and Resources
Good evening WCCUSD community,
We have worked to provide weekly rapid testing at no charge to students and staff, and a Covid-19 dashboard that tracks daily confirmed positive cases and vaccination status. Getting the Covid-19 vaccine, following the safety guidelines, and conducting weekly testing for staff and students is key in helping to slow the spread of the virus. The safety and health of students and staff are our top priority.
The District’s new Covid testing partner, Laboratory Services of America(LSA), began administering weekly rapid Covid-19 tests to students and staff on Monday, September 13. We encourage you to register online prior to your covid test day.
We are excited to announce that starting Monday, September 27, there will be no need to make a testing appointment once you have completed the online registration. LSA is dedicating extra resources to help parents and staff register for a Covid test. If you need assistance, an LSA member will be available at your school for the next few weeks to help with registration on test day.
If you would like to register in advance, please visit the covid testing registration and resources page on the district’s website that includes a how-to video and the testing schedule. The registration instructions are listed by school, as each school’s registration link and QR code is unique. Once registered, students and staff will only provide their name and date of birth to receive a test on test day.
We have heard the community’s concern regarding covid processing time with our previous partner, and the new covid testing process provides results in 15 to 30 minutes. The Covid-19 Dashboard shows the confirmed positive cases at each school site. We have improved covid case reporting on the District’s dashboard from weekly to daily that reflects the confirmed positive cases.
Partnering with LSA has also helped to improve and enhance our contact tracing process. We currently have a contact tracing team of Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) who work with schools and Contra Costa County Health Services on confirmed positive cases. All confirmed positive cases are reported to county health.
We know that you have many questions and concerns regarding the covid testing process and we appreciate your patience and feedback to help us keep students and staff safe. In an effort to provide transparency and improve communication, the District created a FAQ to answer your questions. We will continue to update the FAQ as questions arise.
To submit any questions, please feel free to contact us at feedback@wccusd.net.
Sincerely,
Kenneth Chris Hurst Sr., Ed.D
