"Think You Can, Work Hard, Get Smart, Be Nice!"
    Verde Community,
We continue to strive to our vision.  We purpose all of our effort to achieving our vision of:  A professional learning community of collaborative thinkers focused on high achievement and embracing the whole child so that students grow academically and socially in a safe and positive environment to become college graduates, leaders, and lifelong learners.
Our Theory of Action guides us toward vision.  We focus our work in three areas, student culture and climate, adult collaboration and learning, and teaching and learning. Further, we keep our work grounded with a focus on equity, diversity, and community.
Teaching and Learning is at the heart of what we do.  Our school works relentlessly to increase achievement.  We reclassified four times as many English Learners in 2016-17 as we did in 2014-15!  We doubled the amount of students meeting or exceeding standard on the SBAC in math and literacy!  We will continue to drive toward outstanding student achievement in 2017-18 and keep it our number one priority:  We will focus on facilitating a robust writing workshop in every classroom K-6 daily.  We will implement reading workshop and ensure strong word study and small group guided reading in every classroom k-6 daily.  We will utilize the Full Option Science System (FOSS) to teach next generation science standards daily.  Every English Learner will receive designated English Language Instruction daily as well as integrated English Learner support throughout every class every day.  Adult Learning and Collaboration drive our teaching and learning and we place much time and resource into supporting our terrific educators!
A safe and inclusive Student Climate and Culture is important to us.  We build a school that is full of positive systems where children can thrive and learn.  We focus on positivity and recognizing students for a job well done.  For example, we open our Star Store every Friday in our cafteria in which students can exchange Star Cards for prizes.  A student earns a Star Card for being a good community member.  We will celebrate student success with recognition of a student of the week from every classroom and this student will be celebrated at our Friday community meetings!  Each student is taught our expectations of safety, responsibility, and respect.  If a student breaks one of these expectations, we will re-direct them to improve and provide a restorative approach to discipline.  A child's success is a team effort and we will work collaboratively with familes and community resources to support a child's success.  No one formula will work for every child as equity grounds our work.  We believe great academic achievement plus great character equates into lifelong success.  We look for our Verde Stars to exemplify our core values of curiosity, gratitude, grit, self-control, and vision.  We are focusing on celebrating our rich school community and raising our pride.  View our new logo at the top of this page and visit this website to purchase Verde spirit gear:

It takes a community to make a great school and we are so thankful to our community Partners including Chamberlin Family Foundation, Scully Foundation, Long Foundation, Seneca, YTeam, Playworks, Urban Tilth, YES!, Contra Costa County Supervsior Gioa,West County Reads, San Pablo Public Library, Mills Teacher Scholars, Growing Educators, Inc. and many more!

Your feedback is invaluable!  We are committed to serving our community and providing your child an excellent education.  Please let me know when my staff has met the mark so I can acknowledge them, let me know when we fall short so we can improve our service to you and your family.  I expect my staff to be humble and kind in all interactions with you and your child, no exceptions.

    Go Verde Stars!
