  • PG&E POWER OUTAGE UPDATE

Posted by WCCUSD Communications Dept. on 10/8/2019 6:00:00 PM

    En Español

    Dear WCCUSD community,

I am writing to update you on the latest information from PG&E regarding its  Public Safety Power Shutoff plan. PG&E informed us late this afternoon that power to the affected areas of Contra Costa County will not be shut off until Noon on Wednesday at the earliest.

With that information, we have chosen to keep all District schools open. They will operate on a normal Wednesday schedule.

Additionally, we have learned that Madera Elementary School has been added to the list of schools that will be impacted by the shutoff. Korematsu Middle School and Cameron School have been removed from the list.

The six schools currently affected by the Public Safety Power Shutoff are:

    • Pinole Valley High School
    • Kensington Elementary School
    • Madera Elementary
    • Olinda Elementary School
    • Collins Elementary School
    • Ellerhorst Elementary School

There has been some confusion in our community about which schools will be affected. PG&E has assured us that these six schools are the only ones in our District that will be impacted by the Public Safety Power Shutoff.

We will update the District’s website and social media channels as we receive additional information..

This is also a good time to make sure your contact information is updated and correct so that your child’s school can contact you in case of emergency. You can do so by completing the Annual School Forms online or contacting your child’s school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school principal.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility.

    • Escuela Secundaria Pinole Valley
    • Escuela Primaria Kensington
    • Escuela Primaria Madera
    • Escuela Primaria Olinda
    • Escuela Primaria Collins
    • Escuela Primaria Ellerhorst

    Cordialmente,

    Matthew Duffy

  • POSSIBLE PG&E POWER OUTAGES

Posted by WCCUSD Communications Dept. on 10/8/2019 2:15:00 PM

    Dear WCCUSD Community,

We are in peak fire season, and PG&E announced that it may shut off power in certain areas as part of its Public Safety Power Shutoff plan to help prevent wildfires due to the expected high winds and dry conditions. The power outages could start as early as this evening and last through Friday, depending on the weather.

The power outages could start as early as this evening and last through Friday, depending on the weather. Based on PG&E’s current plan, power may be shut off to Pinole Valley High School, Korematsu Middle School, Kensington, Olinda, Collins and Ellerhorst elementary schools, and Cameron School. We will not close schools unless the power is shut off.

If your school is not on this list, then please proceed as normal and check our website and social media channels as we will be providing updates as we receive them.

In the event that power is shut off before school starts, your school will be closed during the power outage.

If we learn that the power is turned off, we will notify the affected schools through the following ways:

    • A robocall to all students, families and staff of the affected schools.
    • Post the list of closed schools on WCCUSD’s website
    • Post information on the District’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
    • Disseminate information to the affected schools to share with families.

If you do not receive a call, then it means your school has not been affected by the power outage. Please make sure that your contact information is updated on your child’s emergency card. You can complete the Annual School Forms online.
