Dual Language Immersion Guide
The goals of the WCCUSD Dual Language Immersion Program (DLIP) are fully aligned with the goals set forth in the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education known as the “Three Pillars of Dual Education”:
- Bilingualism and Biliteracy: Students develop high levels of listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiency in both Spanish and English.
- Academic Excellence: Students achieve academic excellence in all subject areas as they learn educational content in both languages.
- Cross-cultural Competence: Students develop positive cross-cultural understandings and demonstrate their ability to appreciate the traditions and values of various cultures in our society and around the world.
The DLI Guide provides Time and Content Allocation for the 90/10 program model, Biliteracy Expectations, Instructional Framework, and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section.
- The Time and Content Allocation chart provides the percent of content areas taught in English and Spanish by grade level daily.
- The Bilteracy Expectations pages provide guidance on assessments as outlined on the Time and Content Allocation chart.
- The Instructional Framework outlines strategies used to achieve Balanced Biliteracy in English and Spanish.
