NOTICE OF THE WEST CONTRA COSTA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
REGARDING THE PARCEL TAX SENIOR EXEMPTION
An exemption from the school district’s parcel tax is available to eligible senior citizens who reside in property they own in the territory of the school district, as follows: "An exemption shall be granted annually on any single family residential parcel or multi-family dwelling unit owned by one or more persons 65 years of age or older who occupies said parcel or unit as a principal residence, upon annual application to the District for exemption."
Property owners who previously qualified for the senior exemption are NOT required to renew their eligibility annually. Property owners who wish to request a tax exemption for the 2013-2014 fiscal year must complete and return the form (and supporting documentation) to SCI, Attn: WCCUSD Exemption, 4745 Mangels Blvd., Fairfield, CA 94534. New senior exemption forms for property owners who may be eligible but did not apply in a previous year, are also available on our website or by contacting SCI at (800) 273-5167.
If you received your tax exemption and are still the homeowner and currently reside at the same address, you do not need to renew your tax exemption, it will automatically be renewed.
If you sold your home and purchased a new home, you must re-file for a Senior Citizen Parcel Tax Exemption for the new property.
If your tax form is not received by June 30th, it will not be processed for the current year but will be held for the following year. Please note that the deadline to apply for the Senior Citizen Tax Exemption is June 30th, each year.BALLOT INFORMATIONMeasure T/November 2016 ElectionOn November 8, 2016, the voters of the West Contra Costa Unified School District approved Measure T. Measure T renewed the existing parcel tax for eight years beginning July 1, 2019. The money collected is used to protect small class sizes, retain excellent teachers, avoid further reductions in essential educational programs, and maintain the quality of education in the West Contra Costa Unified School District schools. Measure G allows for a “SSI Exemption” for any Parcel of Taxable Real Property owned and occupied by Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients.
