Welcome to Hercules Middle School Physical Education, where I have been a part of the Hercules family since 2006. I began my teaching career in the West Contra Costa Unified School district in 2001 at Portola Middle School (now Korematsu), taught three years at Helms Middle School, and have been at Hercules Middle since.
As a Physical Education teacher, I strive to offer a high-quality program to our students. Research has shown that physical activity and health are a vital part of a person's overall well-being and are often tied to academic success; we will continue to be active, learn about fitness, health, and the human body. In 6th grade, we focus a lot on teamwork and cooperative games, as well as an introduction to body systems and how humans are affected by exercise.
My program is generally very structured yet allows the students to be leaders in the class. We participate in a number of activities that build on individual health and fitness, basic movement skills needed for numerous sports and activities, cooperative games and activities, and are infusing common core curriculum. I focus a great deal on individual fitness and promote individual improvement through our weekly fitness assessments. Each student will monitor his/her fitness testing scores on an individual fitness sheet (IFS). It is our goal to see growth in each child's fitness throughout the course of the year.

For the 2024-2025 school year, I will also be teaching 1 period of 6th Grade Math. Although my experience is not as deep in teaching math as it is with PE, I am super excited to embark on this adventure with your students in the wonderful world of math! I have a deep love for math and hope to share that passion with your HMS student. During my teaching career at WCCUSD, I taught high school math (Algebra 1 - summer school) and a partial year of 7th-grade math when one of our beloved teachers retired mid-year.
I look forward to a great year of learning with you. I'm excited about getting to know each of you.
If you need to contact me, please email ccolliver@wccusd.net.
**Parents, please EMAIL if you have questions and/or concerns. Please allow up to 2 school-days for a response. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
