    Course description:  Pinole Middle school physical education program aims to ensure all students will feel safe, competent and welcomed at all times.  Here at Pinole Middle, our mission is to enhance the quality of life of each student. We do this by providing opportunities to pursue a lifestyle of personal wellness that includes physical skills, learning opportunities, positive social interactions and emotional well being. 

    Program Objectives:

    Students will understand the importance of sound health and fitness principles as they relate to better health and will be able to:

    1. Define the various health components of fitness.
    2. Recognize the physical and mental benefits of increased activity.
    3. Understand anatomy, basic bio mechanical principles and terminology.
    4. Determine factors involved with development, fitness levels and training strategies.
    5. Examine the effect of nutrition, rest and other lifestyle factors that contribute to better health.

    Students will be exposed to a variety of activities providing them the opportunity to:

    1. Apply learned fundamental skills.
    2. Utilize physical activity as a tool to manage stress.
    3. Empower themselves by setting and working toward realistic individual goals.
    4. Participate in a motivating and nurturing environment resulting in a greater sense of well-being and self-esteem.
    5. Participate in active learning to stimulate continued inquiry about physical education, health and fitness.
    6. Students will demonstrate proficiency through knowledge and acquired skills enabling them to:
    7. Understand and utilize various training methods.
    8. Assess individual levels of fitness components.

    Create a safe, progressive, methodical and efficient activity based plan to enhance improvement and minimize risk of injury.

    1. Identify common health and fitness myths along with trends involved with the evolving nature of physical education.
    2. Develop an appreciation of physical activity as a lifetime pursuit and a means to better health.

    Timeline

    1.  Monday is fitness workout day.
    2. Tuesday is fitness test day.
    3. Wednesday through Friday are activity days.

    Required Materials:  - Physical Education uniform.  Occasionally student tablet.

    Grading: School-wide scale:

     

    90-100% = A 80-89%= B 70-79%=C           60-69%= D           59% and below=F

    ABSENCES AND TARDIES:

    ⚫Absences are excused if powerschool indicates your absence is excused.

    ⚫Points will be deducted if your absence is not excused..

    ⚫If you are tardy to class without an excuse note or not in your roll call spot, you will lose 2 points for each tardy.

    ⚫ If you are absent please check google classroom for assignment.

    ⚫ Please make arrangements to make up assignments and tests.

     

    COMMUNICATION:  Please email me with concerns; this is the best way to get in touch with me. I will get back to you within 2 days.  You may also check Google classroom for class information.  




    PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLOTHING 

    1. Students are required to wear a physical education uniform for P.E.  
    2. The prefered uniform is the school P.E. clothing.
    3. You may purchase your uniform from the main office before and after school.
    4. The shirt and shorts costs: $10.  Put your name on your clothing.
    5. If you chose to wear something else for P.E. then it must be plain athletic clothing consisting of shorts and t-shirt.  Sweats are also ok.   
    6. The following are the only colors allowed for both Shirt and shorts:  Grey, black, white, purple and gold.
    7.  The clothing must be used for physical education class only.
    8. Please change into your school clothes after P.E. class.  P.E. clothes are not allowed in other classes.
    9.  Running shoes with laces are required to participate in activities. 
    10. Take your P.E. clothes home on Fridays to wash and bring them back on Monday.

     

    As an incentive:  If you dress every day for an entire month, you will be given a free dress pass.  You may use this pass anytime you would like. You are still required to participate in the class activities.  You will still need to wear athletic tennis shoes.




    LOCKS AND LOCKERS

     

    1. We only allow combination locks on the P.E. lockers.
    2. The prefered lock is the school purchased blue lock that you can buy at Blue Sky.  Cost: $7.
    3. Once a student has received a lock and is an expert at opening the lock a locker will be issued.
    4. Fill out a notecard when you are assigned a locker. This will help us to identify missing locks.
    5. Put your combination in a safe place:  cell phone or tablet.
    6. Do not share your combination with anyone.
    7. Do not share your locker with anyone.
    8. Do not switch your locker without notifying your teacher.  



    1.  Be on time to your roll call spot.
    2. Come to class with a positive attitude.  Be ready to be active and learn.
    3. Respect everyone in the class at all times.
    4. Use appropriate language when speaking to your classmates, and be supportive.    
    5. Participate in the class activities safely and appropriately.  
    6. No food, gum and drinks are allowed.  Water in a water bottle is ok. Put your name on it.
    7. Electronic devices are to be left in your back packs and turned off.  
    8. Leave your back packs in your locker in the locker room.  Lock your belongings at all times.
    9. Remain in class at all times. Stay in the locker room until you are excused.
    10. If you need to use the restroom or need to go to the office please ask for a pass. 
    11. Put equipment away at the end of class.
    12. Please notify your teacher immediately if you need assistance or have a question.

    Example>  If you hurt or don’t feel good please notify your teacher right away.

          If you are having an issue with another student notify your teacher right away.

                       If you notice something is broken and needs to be fixed notify your teacher right away.

                       If you notice another student that needs assistance please notify a teacher right away.

    MEDICAL EXCUSES

     

    1.  If a student is injured or sick a note from a parent or doctor must be provided if they are not able to participate in the class activities.  
    2. A doctor’s note is required if the student requires accommodations lasting longer than 5 days.
    3. Please document the issue and the date they will be able to resume activities.
    4. For ongoing medical issues please provide documentation from a medical doctor.  A 504 plan will need to be put into place so accommodations or modifications can be provided.  
    5. If a student needs to take medication for physical activity there must be a permission slip to self administer on file in the main office.
    6. While on modified or restricted activities student’s will be required to do alternative assignments to receive their full participation points.
