Hello Greenwood Community,
Greenwood is currently seeking new members for our SSC and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is composed of the school principal and a group of people, selected by their peers, representing all segments of the school community: teachers, support staff, parents, and student members at the secondary level. The common goal and focus of this elected body are to support student success. The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) does this by developing and monitoring the implementation of the school's plan known as the Single Plan for Student Achievement

Upcoming Events
Greetings parents, guardians, families and friends, this is an important message from Sylvester Greenwood Academy.
My name is Phil Johnson and it is with great excitement that I address you as the newly appointed principal at Sylvester Greenwood Academy. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with a great school community and I am excited to share my skills as an educational leader and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure our students' success.
The District has just announced the reopening plans for the 2020-2021 school year. We will start the year off with the students engaged in distance learning. Bringing students back to campus for classroom instruction will be phased in when it is safe for both the students and staff. Safety is the number one priority.
Distance Learning will officially start on Monday, Aug 17th. The school day is from 10 am – 3:00pm. Students will start off the day with a 25-minute homeroom and have 3 (55) minute classes to complete the school day. Two periods before lunch and one period after lunch. On Mondays and Wednesday, students will attend their 1st, 2nd and 3rd period classes, and on Tuesdays & Thursdays, they will attend 4th, 5th & 6th periods. Lunch is at noon. Teachers will have office hours daily from 9:30 -10am and 2:00 -2:30pm. Students will have the opportunity to check in with teachers during office hours to answer questions or for classroom support.
Fridays are reserved for Wellness. Families can check in with teachers from 9-10 am. Students will have to log into their homeroom at 10am for Wellness exercises. Making sure our students are well, attend all of their classes, and stay engaged is our major goal.
All students will need their District ChromeBooks to participate in distance learning. The school will be open on Thursday, August 13th from 9-2 for parents to fill out paperwork and students to pick up materials and supplies. We are using Google. Classroom platform for distance learning. Teachers will contact their students on Wednesday, August 12th, from 1-3 for orientation.
You will receive weekly updates for the first few weeks of school. Our school will be closed to the public but staff will be available by phone to address any questions or concerns. The school phone number is 510 231-1402. Teachers are available by email. Please refer to our school website for staff contact information.
As the principal, it is important to me that everyone who walks through our doors – teachers, students and parents – feel welcome at Greenwood Academy! Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns or ideas you would like to share. We are in this together, be patient, and let’s be graceful and kind to each other.
Thank you,
