Opportunities Knock for PV Students
Everything from an online job fair with the regional parks, to internships as Police Explorers with San Pablo to a Hercules city job fair are on the table right now. We have a workshop for girls who code, and we have multiple in person programs for students in the medical field, including a day at UCSF and this event above, where girls can get a suturing kit as well as professional development work in actually being able to use this tool. We have a hack-a-thon for all too. Choose your adventure as many of these events happen off campus but can enrich your daily school life as well. And if you do go, let us know, nothing like word of mouth to pass on some of the best connections that there are to make.

Spring Sports Swing into Success
For the first time in years, the Pinole Valley golf team is starting the season 2-0. The squad, a mix of boys and girls went big and beat Salesain 232-244 to clinch a winning week. The team is a mix of young and old, boys and girls, the one thing they have in common is a will to win. Also victorious was Spartan swim, as the girls team knocked out Albany last night and the boys came within six points of a victory themselves. The baseball and volleyball games postponed by last night's late cancellations will be back in action soon. Good start for Spring as the week began with wins in baseball and badminton too

One Nice Step
There are so many ways to say thank you, but one of the best is the simplest, a note of apprecation. We are thrilled that the Bring change 2 Mind club is hosting such an opportunity Wednesday right here in the Quad at lunch time. The crew is setting up a table with stationary and supplies giving you the opportunity to craft a message to a teacher or staff member who you want to appreciate. Start with something small but meaningful and you will be entered into a raffle that can win you and your recipeient a nice prize and a way to pay it forward. Thanks Health center for this lovely idea!

Artist of the Day: Hanadi Naji
Hanadi used color pencils to recreate the Fauvist primary work from the canon: Andre Derain, L’Estaque, 1905. The purpose of this exercise is to carefully observe the both bold and subtle use of color that the Fauves employed in their paintings. Use of nonlocal color was a signature of this art movement: notice how the tree trunks are not brown and the grass is not green. Colors represent fantasy more than reality Note: this is the fourth time in four years, Hanadi has been honored as our artist of the Day.

Pinole Valley Shows Out for Black History
Black History is American history and on Saturday February 17, Pinole Valley made history too. Inspired by teacher and club sponsor, Michele Lamons, our African American Student Union put on a blockbuster event. Speeches, music, dance, video and more. Highlighting and celebrating the richness of a culture and a people. The audience got over two hours of student passion and presentations followed by those same students serving lunch for all gathered. It was a most memorable day and will last in people's memories for as long as they share them with others. Magnificent and glowing work.

Artist of the Day: Marisol Cuellar Ramirez
In this particular photograph, Marisol was tasked with utilizing two light sources to accentuate the interplay of shadows cast by the origami. Opting for a black and white edit, Marisol effectively captures a full range of tones, from light to dark. Notably, the image also presents an intriguing illusion of the whale appearing to stand on its face. Look for Marisol's and other of our artists work this spring at the District art show and at the summer's county fair. We have a seasons worth of art still to come, and want you to come and be a part of it.
