  • Tutoring Returns to Pinole Valley after school

Starting now, every Tuesday and Thursday is tutoring time at Pinole Valley. Our library is open from 3:45-5:15 mid week for all students no matter their subject, no matter their need. The tutors are ready to work one on one or in small groups as needed, and they are also happy to host athletic teams looking for study hall opportunities as well as students who just want a dedicated space to get their homework done. There is no appointment necessary, just a willingness to reach out and ask for assistance on your work before it overwhelms or scares you. We are looking for some new peer tutors too. So if you are interested in getting credits and assisting others who are going through what you went through, the library, as it is for so many things, is the place to Be!

  • Artists of the Day: Sophia Lee and Saniyah Thomas

This is a collaborative Sketchbook between Sophia Lee & Saniyah Thomas. Here you can see Sophia’s work on the left and Saniyah’s on the right. Both are students in IB Visual Arts HL2 (senior year). Keep an eye out for their senior IB shows this spring! Sophia and Saniyah found an abandoned sketchbook that they turned into a collaboration and the have been working on it for a couple months. Here you can see a call and response between the two artists. Sophia is using a simple blue and red palette as is Saniyah, not sure who did their page first. Saniyah’s work is in paint and has her trademark text, which is usually very meta. Sophia seems to mimic the movement of the paint in marker and her figure looks like the same subject but has Sophia’s abbreviated line work and hatching style.

  • Artist of the Day: Sophia Snaith

As an introductory assignment to gauge student interest and knowledge, students were asked to "Show me what they know." The overlap and the placement of the male figure on the bottom of the picture frame by Sophia gives this piece space. The trees that are furthest away are colored in muted tones, giving the illusion of distance on the paper. She expertly blends analogous colors creating form. Sophia shows some mid season skills in Ms. Tremors' class very impressive for a first week assignment

  • Artist of the Day: Nae Scott

The assignment was to take a three dimensional form and reduce it to a two dimensional shape by eliminating detail using editing software on our phones. Students were asked to take a profile picture, in the walkway to the A building, then use the black and white filter as well as edit it by increasing the overall contrast, reducing highlights, and increasing shadows. Once edited, details were removed leaving the organic silhouette shape of the profile of a person. Nae Scott's project is a great example of an image that hit the requirements and looks terrific.
