Art at Madera
Our Art Teacher is Rochelle Johnson
Rochelle Johnson was born in Atlanta, GA and moved to the bay area in 2014. She has both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Art Education and began teaching in 2005. She has a single subject Visual Art Credential and has taught every aged child from 2 years old through High School, but really enjoys teaching elementary aged students. She has been teaching at Madera since February of 2020.
In art class, students create art using a variety of mediums, learn how to talk about art, how to reflect on works of art they have created, and learn about many different types of artists.
TK-3rd Grade Students will have art for approximately 10 sessions this school year thanks to Prop 28! Mrs. Johnson is really looking forward to working with the younger students this year.
4th-6th Grade Students have art classes twice a week for the entire year! You can follow the student artwork on our school’s Artsonia page. Any purchases made through the Artsonia website give a portion of the proceeds back to our Art Program.
Volunteering Opportunities
Mrs. Johnson is ALWAYS looking for volunteers to help with Art. Help is needed with anything from hanging up artworks, taking them down, setting up for the Art Fair in the Spring, help preparing materials in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom.
If you are interested in volunteering in Art, please email Mrs. Johnson at rochelle.johnson@wccusd.net.
