ParentLink Message 1.5.21

Good evening, Lincoln families. This is Mrs. Parham with an important update. There will be NO SCHOOL this Friday, January 7th, and Monday, January 10th, per the Superintendent's recent decision.

The message from Superintendent Dr. Chris Hurst reads:
As you know, this has been a very challenging week for school communities across our district. We are seeing far more staff absences than usual because of the virus, and we also have an increased number of students testing positive for COVID-19 as we return from winter break. District central office staff have been deployed to school sites to help as much as possible, especially those schools who have been most impacted by staff absences.

This is putting an immense strain on our system, and to alleviate some of the pressure and allow more time for those in our community who are out sick to heal, I believe the best course of action is to use two of our flexible “smoke days” on Friday, January 7 and Monday, January 10. All district schools will be closed for students and staff on both of these days.

We do not take closing schools lightly but I do believe this action is necessary at this time. We will be encouraging all of our students and staff to quarantine as much as possible during the smoke days, and to get tested before returning to school on Tuesday, January 11. Our three new testing sites will be open Friday, January 7, and available to test students and staff. Please note that you are required to register for testing at the additional testing centers before you arrive. The registration process is the same as it has been for testing at school sites. Please visit www.wccusd.net for more information, where you also can find instructional videos on how to register for a test.

Please note that our three new testing sites will not be open Monday, January 10.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely, and will update you with the latest information we know.

Respectfully,
Dr. Chris Hurst

Thank you.
