ParentLink Message in English (3/29/21)
Good evening, Lincoln families. This is Mrs. Parham with a message on behalf of the Lincoln team.
This message contains five pieces of information, so please listen carefully.
First, there have been a lot of new developments about the reopening of school. While we know that we will be opening school for in-person learning for some of our highest needs Lincoln students, many of the details around when and how school will be reopened are still being determined. We will share more as we learn it in the coming weeks.
Second, please note that beginning this week, all of our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who are designated as English Learners will be required to take a state exam called the ELPAC exam. The ELPAC exam consists of four subtests, for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Each of our 3rd-6th grade teachers will be testing the English Learners in their own class. This means the 3rd-6th grade daily schedules will be a little different over the next few weeks. If your child is NOT an English Learner, they will still be required to log in for online learning, but they may be given more independent assignments over the next few weeks. This morning, we uploaded videos explaining the ELPAC in more detail in English and Spanish. Please watch these videos for more information.
Third, this summer, the Childrens Defense Fund will be offering a Freedom School as a summer school option for our students. The Freedom School for our Lincoln students will be held at King Elementary from June 15th-July 23rd, from 8:30-3:30pm daily. Preference will be given to African-American students and those in the Kennedy family of schools. If interested, please click on the link on our Class Dojo School Story for more info and the application.
Fourth, this Friday, April 2nd, we will be holding the School Store at Lincoln. If your child has Simbucks they would like to "cash in" for prizes at our School Store, please stop by Lincoln anytime from 11:00-12:30pm this Friday.
And last, note that next week there is NO SCHOOL, due to Spring Break. We have school all of this week, no school next week, and then we'll resume distance learning again on April 12th.
That's all I have for now. Please tell your children that we love them, we care about them, we miss them, and we look forward to the day when we can all be together again soon. Take Care.
