Collins School has a traditional educational program. Each year in the spring, students in grades 2-6 are administered the STAR test. In the fall, winter and spring, the students in grades K-6 are administered the district's writing, reading and math assessments. Parents receive the results of these tests at conferences in November and/or they are sent home in the spring. Students receive three report cards each year. Also, parent/teacher conferences are held annually in November. Bilingual students are assessed by the Registration and Placement Center (RAP) of the English Learners Department to identify their level of English proficiency. Their teachers and the district assess all students in grade 3 for the Gifted and Talented program. Students in the 5th grade receive a physical fitness test in midyear of each school year. Parents receive the results of this test via a notice sent home (student score report).

The teachers and staff are aware that all students learn using a variety of modalities. Example: auditory, kinesthetic, and visual. Therefore, several additional educational supports are present in the curricula at Margaret Collins School . Example: Everyday Calendar Math kits, listening centers, multi-media technology including the computer center and internet access for upper grade students in their classrooms, phonics (Open Court), study trips, Teacher Cadet program, after-school programs, parent workshops, and reading support. Our teachers work under the belief that all students possess gifts and talents, which need to be developed and enriched.
