Dover Presents African American/Black Read Aloud
Dover was excited to host our African American Herritage Read Aloud February 8-11. Our focus this year has been on family and identity.
Local author Dennis McCollins read his book Just One More (Just One More) to our younest students. It was very exciting to actually meet the author! Sergent Mel Smith from San Pablo PD read to our first and second graders. They had so many questions about his job. San Pablo PD's Outreach Specialist Katrina Jones read to our third and fourth graders. They had some very thoughtful questions about race. She was amzing with sharing her thoughts and experiences. Principal Phil Johnson of Greenwood Academy read to our fifth and sixth graders. He shared some memories, connections with food and sage advice for our older students.
A special thank you to Edgar Medina for getting our books and setting up our readers! We at Dover were so thankful that we were able to continue this tradition even in COVID times.
