Updated Masking Guidance
Dear WCCUSD community:
I want to share an update with you on our district’s mask policy.
Currently, all WCCUSD employees and students are required to wear a mask at all times, other than eating, while at school and work.
On Monday, February 28, Governor Gavin Newsom announced an update to the state masking guidance, moving from a mask requirement to recommendation for schools beginning at midnight on March 11. Governor Newsom cited declining case rates and hospitalizations in our state for the shift in mask guidance. You can read the announcement here.
What does this mean for our district? While case rates are declining in our county, the transmission rate still remains high for some of the areas where our schools operate. That is why we believe the best decision for our district at this time is to move cautiously.
Starting on Thursday, March 3, outdoor masking will no longer be required for WCCUSD students and employees. Students and employees are still required to wear masks indoors. Masks will not be required for students outside during the lunch period. Passing periods are not considered outdoors.
We will closely monitor how our schools adapt to this new guidance, and we will make adjustments as transmission rates change or state guidelines are adjusted.
Our top priority is the health and safety of our students and staff, and we take any action in this area very seriously.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kenneth Chris Hurst
Superintendent
