Degrees and Certifications:
BA: Child and Adolescent Development from SFSU M.Ed.: Education with concentration in Special Education from CSUS Credentials: Education Specialist with specialization in Mild/Moderate Disabilities from CSUS
My name Maria Brown and I am excited to join Vista Virtual Academy as a Middle School Resource Specialist. A Bay Area native, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development from San Francisco State University. This degree was directly followed by an Education Specialist Credential with specialization in mild/moderate disabilities and a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Special Education from Sacramento State University.
I have worked as a Resource Specialist with WCCUSD since 2007. My work within the district has included the support of students in Kindergarten through 8th grades.
While working remotely via the pandemic, I had the opportunity to witness how using universal design for learning in synchronous & asynchronous online instruction can foster students to blossom. I look forward to making new connections and helping students achieve their potential while accessing their preferred methods of engagement.
Aside from teaching, I love spending time with my family & dog, cooking, traveling, and exploring local rivers and lakes where I can swim, kayak, and relax in the sun with a good book.
