Time to celebrate WCCUSD's school nurses
May 6, 2020
Dear community,
This has been a week of celebrations and recognitions. And, today, I am excited to celebrate and recognize #NationalSchoolNurseDay. We began the month with National School Principal’s Day and continued with Teacher Appreciation Week and School Nutrition Employee Week on Monday, May 4. Tuesday was Cinco de Mayo and National Day of the Teacher. Today, I want to say thank you to the District's school nurses team for everything it does for students and families.
The school nurses team empowers students and families to utilize all District resources so they can be as healthy as possible and have a positive and enjoyable educational experience. WCCUSD’s school nursing team is oftentimes the bridge between a doctor’s medical care and a positive school experience. The nursing team assists with everything from bumps and bruises to diabetes to the emotional well-being for students - and, now the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the school closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kanon Lee, a district nurse for the past three years, has worked to develop safety protocols that ensure social/physical distancing for staff and volunteers at the 22 meal distribution locations. Not only did Kanon develop the protocols based on CDC recommendations but he also produced a safety video, and he and other members of the school nurses team have been training the volunteers and staff at the meal locations.
Kanon is just one example of the team of nurses that operate largely behind the scenes and directly with students and their families. So, thank you again for your service. It is an honor to celebrate the nurses team on this day and throughout the year.
In community,
Matthew Duffy
Superintendent
