WCCUSD to Distribute Testing Kits to Students on Sunday, January 2, 2022
Good Evening WCCUSD Community,
We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, January 3, 2022.
With the latest news regarding the omicron variant, we recently shared that we have secured supplemental COVID-19 at-home testing kits through the Contra Costa County Office of Education that were provided by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The testing kits have arrived and District staff will distribute the tests at two locations, Kennedy High School and Pinole Valley High School on Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What to Expect When You Arrive:
- The distribution sites are drive-in only. We ask that you remain in your vehicle at all times during the distribution process.
- Follow the signs to the student parking lot to receive your kit.
- Wear your mask in line.
- Be prepared to specify how many students will receive a test.
- Bring your student ID or a PowerSchool print out that includes the student ID number(s). Staff will use the student ID numbers to verify students in PowerSchool.
Staff volunteers are preparing to distribute nearly 30,000 testing kits to families and we understand that there may be a waiting period. Following the arrival steps above will help to move the line faster. We ask that you remain patient during the distribution process to ensure that all students receive a testing kit.
We recommend that students take the test prior to returning to school on Monday, January 3. To be clear, please test on Sunday, January 2 to obtain results prior to the first day of school on Monday, January 3. For instructions on how to use the test, please see these videos in English, Spanish, Mam, Cantonese, Arabic, and Vietnamese.
After you take each test, upload the test result to PowerSchool (regardless of whether the result is positive or negative). Please notify your school immediately of a positive test result in addition to uploading the result to PowerSchool. Click here to learn how to upload your results.
These tests are not intended to replace our current testing system, only amplify it so we can test as many in our community as possible. Here is CDPH’s K-12 Schools Guidance, which was recently updated.
If you are returning from a trip this winter break, or have been in a group setting or around people who have traveled or are not vaccinated, we recommend your student gets tested and has a negative test before returning to school. If your student is feeling sick or exhibiting any symptoms, please do not bring them to school. We recommend getting a test from either your health care provider or County Health Services; do not bring your child to school to get tested if they are sick or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
All students ages 12 and older need to be fully vaccinated by February 18, 2022 to continue in-person learning, unless they have an approved medical exemption. Don’t forget to upload your students vaccination card at https://wccusd.powerschool.com/public/ For instructions and more information, visit www.wccusd.net/vaccinemandate
