Dear West Contra Costa Unified Community:

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Gerald Montgomery on Sunday. Coach G was a beloved member of the Hercules community, and his loss is a huge blow to everyone who knew him.

Coach G was so much more than a coach and the CS supervisor at Hercules High School. He was “Mr. Hercules” for the 17 years he worked at Hercules High – doing things like hosting barbecues for students and staff, always looking out for everybody else. He was an important role model for so many students, but especially Hercules student-athletes, checking on their grades and staying on their case to be the best they can be. 

The district is providing social workers for the Hercules community tomorrow for anyone who would like someone to talk to. We will be keeping Coach G’s family in our thoughts during this very difficult time.
