Pinole Valley High School Teacher Among the Nation's Best

Michele Lamons-Raiford PVHS Teacher and NSHSS Educator of the Year Michele Lamons-Raiford, a teacher at Pinole Valley High School, was recognized as a Top Ten 2018 Claes Nobel Educator of the Year by the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). The award is designed to recognize for educators their work helping students build on academic success and grow the skills and desire to have a positive impact in the global community.

Mrs. Lamons-Raiford is no stranger to receiving awards for her teaching, being the 2010-11 Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year.

This year, she is teaching six periods of American Sign Language, and is the only teacher in the District, and possibly the county, to do so. She also advises the African American Student Union, is the new teacher mentor on campus, and coaches the award-winning PVHS speech and debate team.
