El Cerrito, Hercules, Kennedy Student-Athletes named to All-East Bay Times Football Team
The high school football season maybe over, but the accolades for West Contra Costa Unified School District athletes keep coming in. Five student athletes from El Cerrito, Kennedy, and Hercules high schools were named to The East Bay Times’ All-East Bay Football Teams on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.
El Cerrito’s Aaron Banks and Damon Cole were named All-East Bay First Team Offense and Defense, respectively. Kennedy’s Ryan Robinson and Micah Barnes were named All-East Bay Second Team Defense and Honorable Mention Offense, respectively. Hercules’ Emany Johnson was named All-East Bay Honorable Mention Defense.
Ryan Robinson and Micah Barnes were two vital pieces that helped Kennedy have a historic year, finishing 10-2 to tie the school record for wins in a season, post its first winning season since 1988, and advance to the North Coast Section Division IV quarterfinals. Barnes and Robinson were also named offensive and defensive league players of the year, respectively.
Aaron Banks and Damon Cole helped the Gauchos to a 8-4 record this season, including a trip to the NCS Division III quarterfinals. Banks and Cole were both named to all-league team. Banks announced in December that he will play for and attend the University of Notre Dame next year.
Emany Johnson was named All-East Bay Honorable Mention Defense after helping lead Hercules to a 9-2 record, including a trip to the NCS Division IV playoffs.
