Principal's Message to All 9th Grade Students & Families
Greetings to our Class of 2023! We are so excited to have all of your students join us as we start the school year. I want to explain a couple of changes in the 9th grade course line up.
Our ECHS 9th grade students will be the first cohort of students in the district to start the NGSS 3 course pathway. Students on this pathway will all be required to take three years of science classes in order to graduate and they are as follows:
9th Grade: Physics of the Universe
10th Grade: The Living Earth: Bio & Earth Science
11th Grade: Chemistry in the Earth System
In addition, all ECHS 9th grade students are taking the Applied Research Methods, a "G" elective course that will teach our incoming students the skills to research, write, and defend claims through various mediums. As we continue to look at student outcome data, our 9th graders struggle the most with providing evidence to claims in all subject matters.
Lastly, all of our World Language courses are greatly impacted. If your child has not received a WL course this year, your child will be able to double up in the years to come. This is the beauty of our block schedule, which allows students to take a level 1 language course 1st semester and then a level 2 during the 2nd semester of the same year.
Our counselors continue to work on adjusting student schedules based on emails. However, they will not be adjusted in one day. Please allow our counselors time to answer all emails. We can only address requests made at https://tinyurl.com/ECHSCourseChange can be addressed. Please make sure all schedule requests are submitted there and not emailed to a counselor or administrator directly. We look forward to all of the learning and growth that will happen this year with your children.
