Principal's Message

Principals Message

As we wrap up the school year it is a great time to celebrate this years accomplishments. Over half of the students at De Anza have maintained their honor roll status throughout the school year. Seniors are wrapping up their "senior defenses", and we are receiving notifications of college acceptances and scholarships daily! "Decision Day" or the day that students have to submit their acceptances to universities is May 1st. So far, we know that The Dons will be represented next year at over twenty different community colleges and universities. Throughout the spring the college and career center will remain open as seniors finish FASFA/Dream Act paperwork.

Notable college acceptances so far include: Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, UC Merced, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Columbia University, and more continue to come in each day.

As a school, we are working hard to ensure that students know that whether they are college or career bound we support their goals and will support them in acheiving excellence. This year, all juniors attended our annual College and Career Fair in order to receive information about community colleges, universities, and most notably trade unions. Our partners in the electrical, plumbing, cement laying, and masonry trades joined the fair so that students could learn about apprenticeship opportunities. We appreciate their support in supporting students in both college and career readiness!

We encourage all of our students to participate in summer learning. Counselors have the application for the district summer school. We encourage students to apply soon as space is limited! We also encourage students to apply to Contra Costa College's summer STEM programs. Both the math and science programs are phenomenal and help students to re-take courses they struggled in or to advance. The district trip to China is another phenomenal opportunity! Students have the opportunity to travel to China for 15 days and receive 10 credits. For part of the trip, students will stay at a school in China and for part they will explore the sites in northern China. Applications are due online directly to the PCC Corporation.

We look forward to an enjoyable and productive fourth quarter,

 Summer Sigler
