Seal of Biliteracy

The WCCUSD School Board adopted the Biliteracy Awards Program in July of 2011 to recognize and value the biliteracy skills of all students, prepare our students with 21st century skills, and affirm the value of diversity and honor the multiple cultures and languages of our community.

6th Grade Eligibility Criteria

8th Grade Eligibility Criteria

All Students
·         Reading log: At least 3  appropriate grade-level books in English  and 3 in a language other than English

 
·         Score of 3 of higher with the WCCUSD Pathway Rubric on an essay in English, and one in a language other than English.

 

All Students
·         Reading log: At least 4 appropriate grade-level books in English and 4 in a language other than English

 
·         Score of 3 of higher with the WCCUSD Pathway Rubric on an essay in English, and one in a language other than English

 

English Learners

·       Early Advanced or Advanced CELDT Level.

 

Non-English Learners (English-only, I-FEP, R-FEP students)

·         Benchmark or above on the Renaissance Learning STAR Reading benchmark assessment.

 

All Students
 ·        Reading log: At least 4 appropriate grade-level books in English and 4  in a language other than English

 
·        Score of 3 of higher with the WCCUSD Pathway Rubric on an essay in English, and one in a language other than English

 

English Learners

·        Early Advanced or Advanced CELDT Level.

 

Non-English Learners (English-only, I-FEP, R-FEP students)

Seal of Biliteracy Awards 
 
Graduating high school students who demonstrate proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English may qualify to receive the California Seal of Biliteracy.
 

The requirements for the WCCUSD Seal of Biliteracy are:

English Requirements:

·         Pass on the ELA section of the CAHSEE

·         GPA of 2.0 or above in English (35 credits)

 

Language Other than English Requirements (one from the below list):

·         GPA of 3.0 or above in a world language (35 credits) or

·         3 or higher on a world language AP exam (or intention to take exam) or

·         600 or higher on the SAT II world language exam (or intention to take exam).  Exams for languages not offered in world language classes may qualify. Please contact Academic Intervention for further information. 

 
English Learners Language Proficiency Requirement:

·         CELDT Score of Early Advanced or Advanced 

Additional requirements for the official California Seal of Biliteracy:

 

English Requirements:

·         Completed 4 years of English with a GPA of 2.0 or above (40 credits)

 

Language Other than English Requirements (proof of one from the below list):

·         GPA of 3.0 or above in a world language (40 creditsor

·         3 or higher on a world language AP exam or

·         600 or higher on the SAT II world language exam
