Due to an expected major weather event with wind gusts of up to 70 mph in some areas, PG&E has issued a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) notice to all nine Bay Area Counties, including Contra Costa County. Outages are scheduled to begin on Sunday and could last up to three days.
Currently, no WCCUSD schools are in the affected areas, however some neighborhoods near Kensington and Madera elementary schools could be impacted. Some employees living in nearby affected counties and areas of Contra Costa County could also be impacted by the shutoffs.
Distance Learning will continue as scheduled on Monday. If the situation changes, we will provide updates accordingly. Families that are impacted by the shutoffs and lose power, please also contact your teacher or school as soon as you are able to. Please also plan to try and continue distance learning independently through pre recorded videos and lessons.
Everyone is asked to please make sure Chromebooks, WiFi hotspots and cell phones are charged ahead of the scheduled shutoff, so they can work during the possible outage. We know that if the shutoff lasts for more than a day that could make working and charging devices problematic.
