PTA Bayside Council Hosts Annual Art Showcase

The PTA Bay Side Council recently hosted an art showcase for District students who submitted original artwork to compete in the California State PTA’s 2016-2017 Reflections Art contest.

Twenty-three students from Collins Elementary, Olinda Elementary, Sheldon elementary, Washington Elementary, Hercules Middle and El Cerrito High School participated in the district art contest, and 12 students won first place.

Students competed within their primary, intermediate, middle and high school level, and submitted original artwork in one of six areas: Dance/choreography, literature, photography, film production, music composition and visual arts.

This year’s theme: “What is Your Story?” challenged students to create works of art that represented who they are. Students were judged on their interpretation of theme, creativity and technique.

Since 1969, over 10 million students have participated in the national program that offers students an opportunity to express their creative talents, tap into critical thinking skills, and display and receive recognition for original artwork.

The District will submit the winning artwork to compete at state level in January. Award of Excellence winners in the state competition will go on to represent California in the final National PTA judging round for a chance to be featured in the Reflections’ traveling national exhibit.
