Hello WCCUSD Community,

This week, we hosted a community safety forum to review the WCCUSD safety plan and share the District's response to recent safety issues in our schools. Community members were given the opportunity to ask questions, and give feedback on best practices for a safe learning environment in WCCUSD.  I encourage you to continue to submit your feedback during this process.

I want to invite you to part two of the safety forum that will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Monday, May 2. In this follow-up presentation, we will go into further detail regarding our safety plan and strategy, answer the questions that were submitted in our last forum, review your responses from the thought exchange question, and allow time for a live Q&A with attendees at the end of the meeting.

Please join us via Zoom by using the same webinar link, ID and password.

Kennedy High Educator Named Junior Achievement Educator of the Year

Kennedy High School Digital Arts teacher Mitzi Perez was nominated as a Junior Achievement of Northern California 2022 Educator of the Year! Perez is one of seven educators honored at the Business Hall of Fame luncheon today, April 29. The business hall of fame luncheon is an annual fundraising event to honor outstanding volunteer and education partners within Northern California who have demonstrated a passion for Junior Achievement and our mission.

“As a homegrown teacher from Richmond, I think it is incredibly important for students to see themselves in the professions they want to pursue. Time and time again Junior Achievement has been able to provide that for our students. They are able to also practice doing some of that work as a student and that speaks volumes. In a student's words, "This company gave me the impression of hardworking [people] who use a lot of thought into discovering new life in the ocean." They are able to explore career paths that they did not deem possible before. Thank you Junior Achievement for being that bridge for us.”  - Mitzi Perez

West County Mandarin Named 2022 California Pivotal Practice Award Winner

West County Mandarin School has been selected as a 2022 California Pivotal Practice (CAPP) Award Program winner. The California Department of Education(CDE) announced Tuesday:

The California Pivotal Practice Award Program was designed in partnership with CDE’s education associations to celebrate districts and schools that have completed an online application highlighting an innovative practice that was implemented during the 2020–21 school year, when California required schools to offer distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a 2022 CAPP Award Program winner, West County Mandarin will receive a certificate from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and the 2022 California Pivotal Practice Award Program flag to display on the school campus.

Take the Two-Way Communication Survey

WCCUSD is looking to improve communication with families! We are exploring two-way communication platforms that could go into effect for the 2022-23 school year. These platforms better help parents and teachers exchange messages, as well as help stay connected to news and events from the district. Please take this survey and share it with families in WCCUSD. The survey will close on April 30.
