Mobile Fab Lab Brings STEM to the Park
RICHMOND -- The West Contra Costa Unified School District partnered with Chevron last month to unveil the Mobile Fab Lab to children and families at the Bay Area Rescue Mission's Back to School giveaway at Nevin Park.
Hundreds of community members, families and children explored the mobile laboratory to learn how to use 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters and milling machines.
The Mobile Fab Lab is an extention of the Richmond Fab Lab located at Kennedy High School that provides hands-on learning to spark interest in STEM and prepare individuals for the nearly 1 million U.S. jobs that will require basic STEM literacy over the next five years. The Richmond Fab Lab was made possible by a $10 million grant from Chevron to develop Fab Labs in regions where the company operates across the United States.
