Richmond High Senior Named Bank of America Student Leader

Richmond High School senior Ryan Saechao has been named one Bank of America's Student Leaders because of his civic and community involvement. Saechao was one five Bay Area students recognized.
Saechao told the Richmond Standard that his drive to become a leader came from his parents, who remained in a refugee camp for five years and then fled war-torn Laos.
“My parents went through a lot of hardships coming to America and from these stories it made me more passionate about improving the lives of others,” Saechao said in the Richmond Standard article.
For their efforts, Saechao and his four counterparts all earned paid summer internships. Saechao will internship at the YMCA of San Francisco, learning what it takes to be a part of a successful nonprofit organization according to Bank of America.
The internships “can help prepare a young person for long-term success,” said Gioia McCarthy, San Francisco – East Bay market president, Bank of America according to the Richmond Standard.
In July, nearly 300 students from across the nation will be invited to an annual leadership summit in Washington, D.C. (July 8-13). Students will be learning leadership skills, build advocacy, participate in a service learning project with Red Cross, and meet with Congress members.
