Whole Child Whole Community: Become a Substitute Today!
Dear WCCUSD community,
When you selected me to be the next superintendent, I was so excited to be a part of this community because of its commitment to equity and working together for students. The mission, vision, and values resonated with me, and I was eager to get to work on the Whole Child, Whole Community motto.
Eight months later, I have seen this motto first hand. The work we did to reopen schools has been incredible. We have stayed together through all the curves this pandemic has thrown our way to ensure students are safe, cared for, and thriving.
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to test our resolve. The current omicron variant has strained our team and community. I want to applaud WCCUSD’s staff for continuing to work together during these difficult times.
Today, I am writing to ask for the community’s help. The omicron variant’s impact on the community and our staffing levels is significant even with the safety measures. To lessen that impact, we launched the Whole Child, Whole Community campaign to recruit community members to substitute in several roles in the district to lessen the result.
Parents and family members, retirees, members of our community, if you are interested and eligible to substitute in our district, please start the process and sign up today.
Like so many districts in the Bay Area and across the country, we have a shortage of substitutes. Every eligible central office staff member supports schools to assist with the staffing shortage and keep everyone safe, and our schools open.
You can find more information about becoming a substitute teacher here or school support staff here.
If you can substitute, please join us. Thank you for your time, and let’s keep working together as a whole community to overcome these challenges.
In community,
Dr. Kenneth Chris Hurst
Superintendent
