April 8 News Release: Supper added to meal pick up distribution

The West Contra Costa Unified School District expanded its student meal program during the COVID-19 school closure, adding supper to the breakfast and lunch pick up.

Children 18 years of age and younger, regardless of socio-economic status or school of attendance, can now pick up breakfast, lunch and supper from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 17 locations in the District

“These are unprecedented times we are living in right now and any support we can provide the families we serve is a huge benefit,” Superintendent Matthew Duffy said. “We appreciate WCCUSD’s partners, volunteers and staff stepping up and helping us provide families with meals during this crisis.”

Since the school closures began, WCUSD has served more than 270,000 meals with help of staff, volunteers and community partners. The District began offering supper on Tuesday, April 7 after receiving a federal waiver to allow distribution of the extra meal.

WCCUSD is providing meals through its Seamless Summer Feeding and Child and Adult Care Food Programs. The District had one of its largest meal distribution days on Friday, April 3 when more than 22,000 meals were picked up by families.
