Dear Community Members,

It is with profound sadness that I am writing to let you know that Aaron Aldana, a student who attended Greenwood Academy and Richmond High School, died suddenly last week. Our condolences, thoughts, and prayers are with his family and friends as they try to understand this tragic situation.

Coping with the death of a student is never easy. Family and friends feel the loss most intensely, but the entire community mourns when we lose someone so young. When we face such situations, many of us, students and adults, can experience feelings of anxiety, confusion, and sadness.

We will have counselors proactively reaching out to students and staff at both Greenwood and Richmond High and will be available to others who may need their support. If you know of a student or staff member who may need assistance navigating this challenging time, please call the office at Greenwood Academy at (510) 231-1402 or Richmond High School at (510) 231-1450.

I encourage us all to embrace each other mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Lend an ear or a voice to friends and strangers who may be in need. We never know when an extra smile or hello can change the course of someone’s day.

Let’s surround Aaron’s family with the love and support they need during this difficult time. Currently, they are raising funds to help with his funeral. You can donate at https://www.gofundme.com/f/aarons-memorial-services

In Sorrow,

Superintendent
