More than 400 African American students were honored for their academic success during a yearly awards ceremony at the Craneway Pavilion. The District’s Sixth Annual African American Students of Honor Ceremony recognized 406 students in grades 4 to 12 who earned a cumulative grade point average (g.p.a.) of 3.3 or higher in their academic subjects during the 2018-19 school year.
“We are so proud of these students for everything they have achieved,” Superintendent Matthew Duffy said. “It is our obligation as leaders of this district to make sure that all of our students, and all of our African American students, are thriving in our schools every single day.”
In addition, 106 students who earned a g.p.a. Of 4.0 or higher were also recognized. Honored students were invited to participate in the City of Richmond’s annual Juneteenth Parade.
