Ocean-Themed Science Projects Earn Korematsu Middle School Students State Recognition

WCCCUSD students Anna, Nora and Addison at the state Science Fair Congratulations to Pinole Valley High School's Anna Cheng, and Korematsu Middle School's Eleanor Addison and Nora Thompson, who spent the first half of the week representing the West Contra Costa Unified School District at the California Science and Engineering Fair held at the California Science Center.

Eleanor and Nora finished in third and fourth place, respectively, in the Toxicology Junior Division.

Eleanor's project "Sunscreen: Protection or Poison?" examined whether or not sunblock is harmful to coral reefs.

Nora's project "Lights of the Sea" focused on how chemicals affect Dinoflagellates, bioluminsecent plankton that float near the ocean's surface.

Nora also won a $250 Recognition Award from California Shore and Beach Preservation Association. Congrats to all!
