Tiger Beat: El Cerrito High School Baseball Duo Headed to Grambling

Last month, El Cerrito High School's football program was in the spotlight after it had two student-athletes decide to pursue their academic and athletic careers at 4-year universities.

Wednesday, Nov. 14 it was the Gauchos' baseball team's turn.

DeAngelo Fleetwood, an outfielder, and Jamison Patanapanich, a pitcher, announced that they would both continue their baseball dreams and education at the Grambling State University.

Fleetwood and Patanapanich signed their letters of intent in front of family, friends, coaches, and El Cerrito High School staff. The senior duo helped the Gauchos to a 20-7 record last year, including a semifinals appearance in the North Coast Section Division II playoffs. El Cerrito, the 11th seed, came up two runs shy of advancing to the championship game, falling 5-4 to second seed Maria Carrillo.

The Gauchos open the baseball season on Wednesday, Feb. 13 against host St. Patrick-St. Vincent.

Grambling finished 26-26 last season and opens play this year on Friday, Feb. 13 against Western Kentucky at home.
