• Overview
    • The Goal of the State’s Safe and Supportive Schools (S3) Initiative is to improve conditions for learning, including school climate and safety, in high schools with the greatest need.  The Initiative provides incremental funding for individual schools through a grant process.  For more general information about the S3 Initiative click here ( Background Information related to the S3 Initiative) or go to the CA S3 Website listed on the left side of this page.
    • DA applied for its S3 grant in the fall 2011 and was awarded funding of $125,000 per year through the 2013/2014 school year.  The grant primarily supports the Freshmen House tutoring and mentoring, the School-wide teacher-student mentoring program, the Restorative Justice strategy and many of the programs provided by the DA Health Center.
    • A specific work plan was submitted and approved as part of the grant application process.  Progress on these activities is monitored and evaluated by state representatives.  Annual summary reports are required along with budgets and expenditure reports.  They are submitted to both District supervisors and State managers.
