Degrees and Certifications:
Teaching Credential - Loyola Marymount University Masters Degree in Education - Johns Hopkins University
I have been teaching for nine years and have taught preschool, TK, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. I enjoy the upper elementary grades because the students’ insights are profound and I love the conversations I have with my students.
Becoming a teacher was a career change for me. Before I was a teacher I was a paralegal and a criminal investigator. Through my time in the legal industry, I learned that my true calling was to work with and teach children in order to make a positive difference in the world. I love my job because I know I am making a positive impact each day!
My ultimate passion is teaching students how to read! Reading was challenging for me as a student so I love unlocking the doors of literacy for my students. I get excited to teach anything from phonics to deep comprehension. I learn from my students and their analyses of the books they read.
I got my teaching credential from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and my Masters Degree in Education from Johns Hopkins. I have coached ten teachers in the district and through Teach for America. Last year, I was the literacy lead teacher at my school site and in the district for fifth grade teachers. In 2019, I was Teacher of the Year.
Aside from teaching, I love my family! My partner Eli and I have a three month old son, Leon, whom we adore! We also have a German Shepard mix named Jet who is a cuddle bug. We love our family and cherish the time we spend together!
