  • From the Principal's Desk: Week of November 18th

Posted by Paul Mansingh on 11/17/2019

Our academic conversation of the week pertains to the sustainment of academic excellence. Being a Titan Academic Scholar is not something that just happens on its own. Being an academic scholar is a result of repeated academic focused behaviors that that are routinely followed at school and at home.

Have you had that discussion to clarify your expectations with your child? How do you monitor your child’s academic progression in regards to completion of assignments, preparation for tests and exams and track points earned for assignment in each class?

Your child should be spending  a minimum of 40-60 minutes a night reviewing their schoolwork that was completed at school and preparing for upcoming quizzes and exams. If you have any questions regarding any of the classes your child is enrolled in, we encourage you to review each course syllabi, communicate with teachers, and monitor completion of classwork, assigned homework and test/quiz scores.  PowerSchool is a great tool to check on your child’s academic progress. It is important to review PowerSchool grades and assignments with your child at least once a week. Progress reports for the 2nd quarter will be distributed on Thursday December 5th

We would like all parents to log into their PowerSchool account and update your contact information which includes best phone number to reach you and email addresses for both parents.

All students who participate in extracurricular activities, which include athletics, school productions, performances and school sponsored events, are expected to maintain a 2.0 gpa, have less than 10 days of unexcused absences and have less than 20 tardies. Academic/Athletic and Extra Curricular eligibility is verified at the start of each quarter. More information can be found on our school website.

Our graduation date for the class of 2020 has been scheduled for June 6th at 6:00pm. All West Contra Costa Unified Graduation Ceremonies will take place at the Richmond Convention Center. We look forward to utilizing this venue for our graduation ceremony this year.

The Parent Teacher Organization will be meeting this Wednesday at 6:30pm in the school library. There will be some important fund raising updates. We also look forward to introducing our new PTO Treasure. Refreshments will be provided! Hope to see you there!

School Site Council meeting will be this Thursday at 4pm.  We invite you to attend our school site council meetings and welcome your participation.

Our Fall Play productions have begun. This year’s play is A wrinkle in Time. Showtimes are Wednesday – Saturday of this week starting at 7pm each night.  General Admission: $8.00 for students and $10.00 for adults

Friday November 22nd is a minimum day; we will be on our collaboration bell schedule.

Yearbooks are currently on sale for $90. Prices will be going up so do not miss reserving yours through the cashier’s office. Dedication pages are still available. A dedication form can be picked up through Ms. Schrampf or from room H105. Full page dedications are $150 and half page dedications are $80. Quarter page dedications are also available for $40.

Academic habits continue to be a focus for us. We want all students to be responsible citizens of our school community. This means that we expect all students to come to school dressed appropriately with their ID’s visibly hanging around their neck. If a student does not have a photo ID, they will not be allowed into their assigned classroom. Before a student receives a duplicate photo ID, they will need your permission. Each ID costs $3.00 and a lanyard costs $2.00.. We expect all students to be on time to all their classes, including 1st period class. Any student who is repeatedly tardy to their classes will be assigned time management sessions which occur every Friday at the end of 6th period. 1st period starts at 8:20 am and we would like all students to be on campus by 8:10am so they are not late to 1st period class. We look forward to seeing all bright and smiling faces Monday morning.  Have a great evening.
