Mission Critical Literacy Initiative
A WCCUSD Title 1 Program to support Black/African American student achievement
Program Overview
Goal
To support Black/African American elementary students in scoring at or above grade level proficiency in reading as measured by both iReady and SBAC assessments.
Expectations
Academic Support Providers use SIPPS, Amira Learning, and culturally relevant materials and pedagogy with a cohort of students. Principals support at the site level (space, daily schedule, etc.) and the OAASA supports at the district level (salaries, coaching, progress monitoring, strategic planning, etc.)
Execution- Between thirty and forty five minutes of daily small group instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension using SIPPS and other researched based materials and pedagogy align with and support the Tier I instruction occurring in the classroom.
Communication
OAASA Coordinator is communicating with Academic Support Providers through weekly regularly scheduled in person coaching sessions. Academic Support Providers communicate weekly with teachers to monitor progress and lesson plan. Communication from OAASA to parents occurs on a continuous basis through ParentSquare, emails, phone calls, and regularly scheduled PAC meetings.
Data
Data is collected, organized, and distributed to all (students, parents, teachers, academic support providers, principals, etc.) by the OAASA coordinator. Individual iReady student diagnostic reports are generated by OAASA at every testing window (fall, winter, and spring) and shared with the Academic Support Provider to be distributed and discussed with the students, teachers, and parents.
