Our mission is to provide an equitable, rigorous, and supportive educational experience for all students, while fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and encourages lifelong learning.

We are an antiracist district founded on the belief that all students can achieve at high levels of proficiency and that the effects of institutionalized racism can be mitigated is central to how equity is viewed at WCCUSD.

A Diverse & Welcoming Community

At WCCUSD, we pride ourselves on our diverse student population, which includes students from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We serve families who speak more than 50 different languages, creating a unique and inclusive learning environment. With approximately 54% Latino, 18% African American, 10% Asian, 10% White, and 6% Filipino students, our schools are a true reflection of the vibrant multicultural landscape of the Bay Area.

As a district committed to antiracism, we are dedicated to promoting equity, inclusivity, and student success in every classroom. Nearly 34% of our students are English Language Learners, and we offer programs to support language development, academic achievement, and social growth for every student, regardless of their background.

Exceptional Programs & Schools

We offer a wide array of educational opportunities designed to meet the unique needs and interests of all students. From early childhood education to advanced college and career pathways, WCCUSD ensures every child has the chance to thrive. Our schools include:

  • 15 Gold Ribbon Schools, celebrating excellence in academic achievement and innovation.
  • One of U.S. News & World Report’s Top High Schools: Middle College High School, recognized for its outstanding academic performance.
  • Five K-8 schools offering a seamless educational experience from kindergarten through eighth grade.
  • The East Bay’s only Mandarin Immersion School, West County Mandarin School, where students gain proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, an invaluable skill for the global economy.
  • 10 Spanish Dual Immersion Schools, where students become bilingual and biliterate, preparing them for success in a multicultural world.
  • The first MIT-sponsored Fab Lab on the West Coast, giving students access to cutting-edge technology and hands-on learning in design, engineering, and invention.
     

College & Career Pathways

At WCCUSD, we believe in preparing our students for success beyond high school. We offer 20 different college and career pathways, providing students with the skills, experiences, and support needed to excel in both higher education and the workforce. Whether it’s through Visual and Performing Arts, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), or business and trade programs, our students are empowered to pursue their passions and find success in the field of their choice.

Our Visual and Performing Arts Program (VAPA) is nationally recognized, with Pinole Valley High School’s band director being named one of the top 50 in the country. Our El Cerrito High School jazz program has performed at prestigious events worldwide, including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Athletic Excellence

WCCUSD is also home to a rich tradition of athletic achievement. Our students compete at the highest levels, with numerous athletes going on to play professionally. With a strong focus on both individual and team success, our schools foster a competitive yet supportive environment for all student-athletes.

Recently, our Board of Education adopted Roadmap 2.0, an ambitious strategic plan aimed at enhancing student success by focusing on our employees, students, and the wider community. Our schools are well-connected through a robust network of public transportation options, including BART, Amtrak, and highways that make commuting a breeze. Whether you live in Richmond, El Cerrito, Hercules, Pinole, or San Pablo, you’ll find our schools just a short distance away, offering both convenience and community.

We believe that a healthy body supports a healthy mind. That’s why our schools provide delicious and nutritious meals to students every day, helping them stay energized and focused in class. Our food programs reflect the diversity of our community, with options that cater to various dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, and culturally specific meals.

A Legacy of Excellence

The achievements of our district’s alumni speak for themselves. Graduates of WCCUSD have gone on to successful careers in fields such as law, business, entertainment, and sports. Alumni include Christopher Darden, the famous attorney, and Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt from the band Green Day, as well as Cynthia Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks.

Board of Education

Our Board of Education is composed of five elected trustees who guide the district's educational policies and decisions. For a four year term, they are responsible for setting goals, approving budgets, and ensuring academic success for all students.

The Board works closely with the superintendent to align district initiatives with the needs of students, families, and the community. By fostering transparency, accountability, and community engagement, the Board advocates for educational equity and strives to provide a high-quality learning environment for every student. Their work is centered on promoting excellence, equity, and student success across the district.
