​To become a member of the WCCUSD Board of Education, individuals must participate in the district's electoral process. Board members are elected by community voters to serve four-year terms, with elections held every other November. Candidates must reside within the trustee area they wish to represent.

Additionally, WCCUSD offers opportunities for community involvement through committees such as the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC). While not part of the Board of Education, the CBOC plays a crucial role in overseeing bond expenditures. To become a Student Trustee for the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD), interested students should follow these steps:

1. Eligibility Requirements:

   • Be enrolled in a WCCUSD high school.
   • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
   • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
      

2. Application Submission:

   • Complete the Student Trustee application form.
   • Submit one letter of recommendation that highlights your qualifications for the role.
   • Provide a copy of your unofficial transcripts.
   • Include a recent headshot photograph.
      

3. Application Deadline:

   • Ensure all application materials are submitted by the specified deadline, typically in April.
      

4. Selection Process:

   • Applications will be reviewed to verify eligibility.
   • Eligible applicants may be invited to participate in interviews conducted by the District Student Council.
      

5. Term of Service:

   • The Student Trustee serves a one-year term, usually beginning on June 1 and ending on May 31 of the following year.

WCCUSD is divided into several trustee areas, with each area represented by an elected Board of Education member.

• Board Representation: WCCUSD’s Board of Education is made up of 7 members, each elected to represent one of the district’s designated trustee areas. These areas are based on geography and population to reflect the diverse communities within the district.
   
• District Elections: Board members are elected to serve four-year terms, and elections take place every other year in November. Each trustee represents a specific area, and the voters within that area vote for their respective trustee.
   
• Redistricting: The trustee areas may be redrawn following the decennial census to ensure equal representation across all areas. This process, known as redistricting, helps to account for population changes and shifts in demographics.

   1. Regular Board of Education meeting dates are posted on the District website. Dates are subject to change. Additional regular or special meetings may also be scheduled. The public meetings convene at 6:30 p.m. in the Lovonya DeJean Middle School, 3400 Macdonald Avenue, Richmond, CA, unless time and place are otherwise noted. Special meetings may be called at the discretion of the President of the Board or by majority vote of Board members.
