Hello, my name is Deb Messina, and I am so excited to join the Vista Tiger family! I have been working in the fields of education and public health for more than 25 years. As a high school teacher, I taught Health and BioFitness (an integrated class of Health, Physical Education, and Biology). And as an instructor for community colleges and universities, I taught Health Education, Life Skills, Nutrition Science, and Scientific Concepts of Health.
I am an author and have also facilitated many adult Health Promotion programs in medical centers and at the workplace. Through these programs, I was able to help people of all ages learn how to prevent chronic illnesses by teaching them strategies to manage stress, improve their dietary habits, increase their levels of physical activity, and quit smoking for good.
I enjoy using educational technology to enhance student learning and engagement, and I am dedicated to lifelong learning. I believe that in order for students to reach their potential academically, it is essential to support their social, emotional, and physical well-being first. I feel blessed to be a part of this nurturing Vista Virtual community of caring parents and educators.
On a personal note, I love music, dancing, and animals. In my free time, I enjoy yoga, walking my dogs, playing games, and watching movies and shows with my family.
