Lesson 5: Presenting final product

OUTCOME: Each group of students will present their research as a group, and each student will deliver a shoebox of their total work. Students will know how to research a topic and will understand the meaning of a multimedia presentation.

CONDITION: Students will work in groups to develop and present a project on one of the following topics: MONEY, INDEPENDENCE, MUSIC, OR RELATIONSHIPS. More than one group can work on the same topic. Each presentation must be delivered orally and include each member of the group. The presentation must include text, images, and sound.

The lesson will take 5 class periods for preparation, 15 minutes for each group’s presentation, and 5 minutes between presentations for set up and evaluations.

ACTIVITIES:

TEACHER STUDENT

¨ Explain the final project. Give examples of what this outcome might look like: a mini-drama, a computer presentation, a role-play with music, and so on. Talk about the shoebox of information,` that each student will put all of his work into a shoebox. This would include notes, photos, and all the forms that they have used, which will be turned in at the end of the project.

¨ Hand out the Academic Rubric, with the spaces under Application specified with your expectations for your class. Discuss exactly how you will be grading with the entire class.

¨ Explain that you will be asking the students to assess each other also, and this will be used in the final grading. You can choose the percentage you wish to assign to this as well as the assessment criteria.

¨ Divide students into the teacher chosen groups. Spend the rest of class allowing them to organize while you move from group to group offering assistance and guidance.

¨ Begin by discussing the topics and possible types of presentations that lend themselves to the topics.

¨ Discuss the rubric and clarify what you are expected to present.

¨ In your groups, start by organizing the members, assigning roles, deciding on a topic, and brainstorming possibilities for your presentation.
