EXPLORING THE CAREERS IN LANDSCAPING, BOTANY, GROUNDSKEEPING, AND MORE
Assignment:
Brainstorm how many different jobs there are that are related to landscaping. List them.
Pick three of the different job choices and interview two people in each area that are currently employed in these particular professions. (You will have a total of six interviews.)
Make a list of at least twenty different questions that you can ask to each person. When you go to interview them, start out with an open-ended question, like, “Tell me about all the jobs you have had before you got your present one.” This will probably allow the person to give you more information. As the interview continues, you can ask more specific questions.
Record each interview on a tape cassette and then write it down. Underline the parts you found to be useful information and explain why on paper. Do any or these jobs sound like a career you would want to pursue? Why? Pair up with a partner and listen to one of each student’s interviews. Discuss what went well and what did not go well with the interview. Write these conclusions down.
