Fall Sports Season Ends With High Honors for District Student-Athletes

All_League Teams
RICHMOND -- It was a season of history for a number of West Contra Costa Unified School District athletes and teams with one student scholar posting the highest individual finish at a state event and two other student athletes helping their school rewrite its history books.

As the 2016-2017 fall sports season concludes this weekend with the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Football Championships, here is a look at the Tri-County Athletic All-League (TCAL) teams.

CROSS COUNTRY
BOYS

Hercules’ Ryan Cutter cut a new path, finishing fourth in the CIF Cross Country State Championship Division IV boys race with a time of 15 minutes, 39.9 seconds. A senior, Ryan posted the highest finish ever for a cross country runner at the state meet, on Saturday, November 26,2016.

Ryan was named the TCAL’s Most Valuable Boys Cross Country runner and set a personal record this year at the North Coast Section (NCS) Championships with a time of 15:13.3. To read more about Ryan, click here.

FOOTBALL
The Kennedy High School football team not only posted its first winning season since 1988, but the Eagles finished the season 10-2, tying the school record for most wins in a season. In addition, the Eagles had both the offensive and defensive league player of the year, a feat that is believed to be the first time in school history.

Quarterback Micah Barnes, a junior, threw for over 2,100 yards and 30 touchdowns and was named the TCAL Stone Division Offensive Player of the Year. Ryan Robinson, a senior linebacker, had 30 quarterback sacks and led a defense that posted five shutouts was named TCAL Stone Division Defensive Player of the Year.

The TCAL Rock and Stone Division all-league teams are stocked with WCCUSD athletes.
