Meal Application

The meal application process is federally mandated and the Food Services Division must follow all applicable regulations in order to continue to receive reimbursement funds. Each year the California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division, must approve our meal application. Once approved, we begin the annual process of qualifying students for free and reduced meal benefits. We realize the process can often be quite confusing for parents and caregivers.

Meal applications are available at your student’s school, WCCUSD Administration building, and WCCUSD Food Services Department at 750 Bissell Avenue, Richmond, CA

Application processing assistance will be provided prior to the start of school at the following location:

o    Nutrition Center, 750 Bissell avenue, Richmond, CA 94801, Daily from 8-4pm

Online Meal Application

Parents and guardians can submit a meal application online. The online application will be processed within 24 hours, and you will not have to fill out a paper application and mail it or hand it over to the Food Services Manager at your child's school. By clicking on the link you can access the online meal application. APPLY NOW

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Do I need to complete a meal application for each child?
A: No. You need to complete only one application per household. Foster children residing with families are now considered as part of the family with which they reside. A separate application for each foster child is no longer needed.

Q: How do I know if my household is eligible for free or reduced-price meals?
A: Parents or guardians should complete the Meal Application at the beginning of each school year (or when the child enrolls) and return it promptly to the school or Nutrition Services Office. You will be sent a letter home from school informing you of your eligibility once it has been determined.

Q: If I don’t have a Social Security number can I still complete an application?
A: Yes. Complete the application and check the box next to “I do not have a social security number.”

Q: Will other government agencies see my completed application?
A: No. Completed applications are confidential.

Q: Our family receives food stamps. Will my child automatically receive free meals?
A: Not necessarily. Follow the instructions provided with the meal application and check the box next to the type of benefits received and write in the 7-character case number. Be sure to sign the application. If any family member receives county benefits, all students listed on the application, and who are members of the household, would be eligible for free meal benefits. The application must be approved prior to your child qualifying for free meals. Regulations allow up to 10 days for processing. You may purchase meals or provide meals from home until you are notified that your child has been approved for free meals.
