Online Resource Monitors District's Financial Health

RICHMOND -- In an effort to provide more access to the public, the West Contra Costa Unified School District has launched an online tool to give community members a quick and convenient way to view the District’s financial information.

The Citizen Transparency Tool allows the public to access the District's $357 million annual general fund budget, including information about its expenditures, and revenue.

"The health of our budget is the key factor to ensure that our students have access to the best possible education," Board President Liz Block said. "The Citizen Transparency Tool provides the public with an updated and clear look at the financial health of our district and if we are truly prioritizing the goals outlined in our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)."

Individuals can view the District’s expenditures and revenues in near real time with the data updated monthly. The Citizen Transparency Tool gives the public an overall view of the District’s financial health and a more detailed look at expenditures and revenues related to the District’s five (LCAP) goals: Student Achievement, Professional Development, Recruitment and Retention, Parent and Community Engagement, Student Engagement and Climate, and Basic Services for All.

"The Citizen Transparency Tool is a great addition to our District's efforts to provide the public with another avenue to understand the resources available to support our students and how those resources are being utilized," Superintendent Matthew Duffy said. "There is no such thing as too transparent and by providing more ways to involve the public in all aspects of our work helps us improve the lives of our students and our community."

The District began developing the Citizen Transparency Tool in 2016 and the Business Services Department launched the tool in late February.

"I am very proud of the hard work our staff has done to implement this tool," Associate Superintendent of Business Services Sheri Gamba said. "We will continue to update the tool and add data and features that add more valuable information to the public discussion on how to best serve our students."

The Citizen Transparency Tool is live on the District's home page and is updated monthly.
