West Contra Costa Unified School District
Parent Advisory Committee Meeting on Redistricting
May 17, 2004
Meeting Notes
Cathie Kosel opened the meeting with a welcome and introduction of the attendees. Anita Madrid reviewed the Role, Tasks, Ground Rules for Discussion, and the decision-making process agreed upon by the committee at the last meeting. Jamie King then presented five slides showing the district boundaries and fielded a few questions along with the staff who were present. Questions ranged from asking for definitions for EUA (existing Useable Acreage) and other acronyms to whether labs were included in the capacity loading. CDE recommended acreage criteria was explained and the loading criteria for each school. Vince Kilmartin agreed to have a staff person explain the capacity loading process at the next meeting.
Anita asked the group to discuss the process they wished to use in analyzing the data and coming up with suggested recommendations. The group decided to break up into three groups and to work on the boundary maps for the next hour. The groups reconvened at quarter to eight and reported their suggested recommendations and their rationale for each suggestion.
Five preliminary recommendations were proposed from this session were posted but since there was little time left to fully discuss these the group decided to take up discussion of the preliminary recommendations and to continue their deliberations at their next meeting on June 1, (a Tuesday). No recommendations were adopted at this meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Anita Madrid
