West Contra Costa Unified School District
Parent Advisory Committee on Redistricting
 Meeting Minutes 6/28/04

The meeting opened with a budget presentation by Cathie Kosel. The committee requested more budget information specific to the schools under discussion for consolidation. Cathie agreed to bring that information to the next meeting.

The committee continued discussion of the elementary maps and agreed to approve all the maps and take up the specific school consolidations as a separate consideration. Discussion continued on the Verde and Castro borders and ended with a recommendation on the Verde border and a hold on the Castro border pending the school consolidation question.

The Kensington proposal was taken up and the parent petition was handed out to the committee. After discussion the group agreed to make a recommendation to the BOE on this issue at the next meeting.

The middle school maps were reviewed and the committee recommended approval of the maps. The committee discussed the flow of Washington students to Portola Middle School and decided to leave it as is.

The recommendations to date were approved for posting on the web. The committee hoped that this along with the staff implementation of the outreach effort would elicit more public comment from the parents.

Parents are invited to review the recommendations and the school maps and to make comments directly to the web master. These comments will be accessed directly by the committee and considered in their future deliberations.  The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, July 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
